I SEE YOU

I SEE YOU is a music theatre project by Angela Khalil and Thomas Deleu, developed in collaboration with local partner organisations in Lebanon. The project was created in response to the explosion in the port of Beirut in 2020, when young people transformed their personal experiences and emotions into a collective music theatre performance.

Since 2025, I SEE YOU has taken on a new form, adapted to the changing reality in Lebanon. Children, young people and young adults from different neighbourhoods of Beirut explore themes such as war, loss, uncertainty, and the impact these experiences have on their daily lives. At the same time, they also discover and express the strength of connection, creativity and hope that continues to exist within their communities.

During two intensive working periods, the project is supported by music therapist Mia Bteich. Alongside the artistic process, a training programme is being developed to strengthen local facilitators and support the long-term continuation of the project.

I SEE YOU – Documentary by Mohammad Kain

The documentary I SEE YOU follows the project that took place in May 2025, five months after the bombardments of Beirut. Over the course of two weeks, children and young people from different neighbourhoods came together through music and theatre, guided by Angela Khalil, Thomas Deleu and Mia Bteich.

Their experiences, stress and difficult moments were transformed into a creative story about Lebanon — a story in which both the pain and the beauty, resilience and humanity of the country become visible.

The project concluded with a performance at Théâtre Elysée in Achrafieh, Beirut.

In the following documentary, you will see feedback from several participants and trainees.
