Connection and empowerment through art: for refugees in Belgium and people in conflict and post-conflict settings

Together, we build a future filled with hope, creativity, and new possibilities!

Crea Thera International (CTI) is a creative and therapeutic centre that provides music therapy to people with a migration background in Belgium and worldwide.

In addition to its therapeutic work, CTI places a strong focus on creativity. We approach people from the perspective of their strengths and healthy qualities, with the aim of enhancing their resilience, well-being, and overall health. Music theatre is a powerful tool in this process. Both in Belgium and internationally, we create performances in which participants can tell and share their stories with the community. This creates a double impact: it strengthens the participants and promotes understanding and connection within society.

Belgium

Crea Thera International organises music therapy sessions for refugees in Belgium, including children, adults, and unaccompanied minor refugees. The sessions take place at various locations in Flanders and Brussels, in collaboration with reception centres, schools, and other partner organisations.

Through our work, we aim to strengthen resilience, connection, and a sense of self-worth.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Crea Thera International works in Bosnia and Herzegovina through various projects focused on art, music therapy, and community development.

In Osmace (Srebrenica), CTI organises a project week three times a year in which young people collaboratively develop a music theatre performance. In Sarajevo, CTI also works with young people on similar creative projects.

In Vlasenica, CTI provides music therapy sessions in the health centre and offers training for medical professionals.

CTI has a long history of collaboration in Bosnia and Herzegovina (2006–2016) and continues to build on this experience today. By strengthening local communities and supporting sustainable development, CTI aims to create a lasting positive impact.

Lebanon

Since 2019, CTI has also been active in Lebanon. The work began with training programmes for healthcare workers, therapists, psychologists, and social workers who support refugees.

In addition, CTI organises music theatre projects for children and young people. These projects provide a safe space where participants can express their emotions, process their experiences, and share their stories.

Lebanon has faced successive crises for many years, causing many people to live under severe psychological pressure. In this context, art and music theatre offer a powerful methodology. They help transform stress, grief, and trauma into creativity, resilience, and hope, while enabling these stories to be shared with the wider community.

Training programmes

Crea Thera International is also an international training centre for professionals working with vulnerable groups.

CTI offers various training programmes for healthcare workers, therapists, psychologists, social workers, and other professionals, both in Belgium and internationally.

Our training programmes focus on areas including:

  • Community Music Work;

  • music therapy in intercultural contexts;

  • music theatre as a therapeutic and participatory method;

  • supporting refugees and people affected by trauma;

  • developing creative projects within the non-profit sector.

The I See You training programme was developed from our experience in Lebanon and supports professionals in setting up and facilitating music theatre projects within NGOs and local organisations.

In addition, CTI continuously develops new training programmes linked to innovative projects in Lebanon and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through these initiatives, we aim to strengthen local therapists and facilitators so that they can independently develop sustainable creative and therapeutic projects.
